Joan Kenny, age 90, of Tinton Falls, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on May 25th, 1935, in Jersey City, NJ, Joan was the daughter of George Palvis and Lillian Sipos. From an early age, she assumed the role of caregiver, caring for her siblings especially to her sister who was mentally ill. That spirit of selfless care would define her entire life.
She married young and later remarried, ultimately building a large, loving family that extended beyond her biological children. She was a mother and stepmother to eleven children, giving each one love, guidance, and a stable home. She was deeply involved in every aspect of her kids' and grandkids' lives, cheering from the sidelines at sports games, volunteering with the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and being a constant, caring presence.
Professionally, she worked for many years as a dental receptionist, later in life she was a caregiver for her autistic grandson, Thomas. She also worked and volunteered at the Schroth Adult Program for people with physical and developmental disabilities. She had a special way of bonding with each person she interacted with through music, baking and just pure laughter.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. A devout and active member of her church, she served as a Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir, embodying her beliefs through action and love.
She expressed her creativity through sewing and crocheting, often gifting handmade afghans and quilts to friends and family. Her home was filled with the comforting smells of her apple pies, chocolate chip cookies, pierogies, and the imaginative cakes she made for her children when they were young. She also loved gardening, canning vegetables, and tending to her flowers.
She is survived by her loving children, Veronica DeNardo and her husband, James, of Aberdeen, and Joseph Linde and his wife, Margaret, of Berkley Springs, West Virginia, her adoring stepchildren, Michael Gormley and his wife, Judy of Oregon, John Gormley and his wife, Rita, of California, Robert Hummer and his wife Judy, of Bridgewater, NJ, William Hummer and his wife, Rosemarie, of Belford, NJ, Kevin Kenny of Colorado, Timothy Kenny and his wife, Maryanne, of Emerson, NJ, Steven Kenny and his wife, Kendall, of South Dakota, Sue Simon of Bogota, NJ, and Theresa Kelly and her husband, James, of Dumont, NJ, along with 21 cherished grandchildren, 13 treasured great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lillian (Sipos) Palvis, her first husband, Andrew Linde, her second husband, Robert Hummer, and her third husband, William Kenny, along with her siblings, Richard Palvis and his wife, Eileen, Lillian Palvis and her husband, Walter, Patricia Palvis, and Kenneth Palvis.
