Joan was born on May 31, 1938, in Genoa, Nebraska, to Rudolph "Pete" and Rosena "Rose" (Ternus) Ramaekers. She graduated from Genoa High School in 1955 and attended Platte College (CCC) and graduated with an LPN degree. She was always so proud to say she was part of the first nursing class to graduate from Platte College. In 1956, she married the love of her life Lawrence "Larry" Kuntz and to this union three children were born - Jerold, Kimberly, and James.

Joan was very active in her church, and her faith was extremely important to her. She was a member of the Altar Society and taught CCD. You could expect to see Joan in the 5th pew from the front every Sunday or Saturday night.

Joan was also active in her profession. She worked at Park Street Medical Clinic and the Genoa Hospital for many years. Even after her retirement from nursing she still put in a few hours at the clinic. She was also the owner of the Genoa Haven Home where she cared for patients like they were her own family, which is how they were referred to.

Thanksgiving was Joan's favorite holiday. You could always expect there to be way too much food prepared because she always said you can never run short of food. After eating lunch and supper, there were enough leftovers for the next day when we would watch the Husker football game and decorate for Christmas. Husker sports were also a passion for Joan or for that matter any sports. Attending the kids and grandkids sporting events was also a highlight for Joan. She was always the biggest supporter for any family member.
