Joan Lawrence Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Joan M. (Ohrenberger) Lawrence of Carver passed away peacefully with her children by her side on September 27, 2025, at Benchmark Senior Living in Plymouth, at the age of seventy-eight.

Born on October 31, 1946, in Boston, Joan was the daughter of the late Edwin and Mary Frances (Johnston) Ohrenberger. She was raised in Marshfield and graduated from Marshfield High School in 1964. Joan was a devoted homemaker and, for many years, cleaned homes on the side-work she truly loved. In 1992, she began a new chapter as a Human Resource Assistant at Arbella Insurance, where she worked until her retirement in 2013.

Joan's greatest joy was her family. She cherished cooking and baking for the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, with her homemade pies becoming a family tradition. She loved vacationing in Maine, strolling the beach in search of shells, listening to Neil Diamond, and cheering on the New England Patriots. A devout Catholic, Joan was an active member of St. Kateri Church in Plymouth, serving on the Liturgical Committee and as a Eucharistic Minister. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, blessing her with many lifelong friends.

Known for her quick laugh and wonderful sense of humor, Joan brought joy wherever she went. Though she could be a little gullible-famously believing her husband Glenn when he convinced her that boneless chicken farms existed-she always took it in stride and laughed the hardest. She was a bright light to all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

Joan was the beloved wife of the late Glenn R. Lawrence. She was the loving mother of Christine McDougall and her husband Brendan of Pembroke, Erin Donovan of Carver, Sean Donovan and his wife Melissa of Plymouth, Glenn Lawrence and his wife Jill of Plymouth, and Seth Lawrence and his significant other Lucia Reis Cote. She was the proud grandmother of Jake and Kyle Lawrence and remained close with their mother, Krista Lawrence of Plymouth. Joan was the cherished sister of Edward Ohrenberger and his late wife, Penny of Sandwich, Judy Ohrenberger of Weymouth, Marylou Trocchio of Marshfield, Nancy Harrington and her husband David of Marshfield, and Julie Dever and her husband Paul of Carver. She also leaves behind her former husband and dear friend, Robert G. Donovan; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; countless treasured friends; and her beloved grand-pups, Aoife and Bailey.

A period of visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Kateri Church, 126 South Meadow Road, Plymouth, followed by burial at Vine Hills Cemetery, Samoset Street, Plymouth.
