Mr. Daniel Webster "Dan" Clark, affectionately known to many as "Flattop," passed away on June 1, 2025, in Massachusetts, at the age of 89. Born on December 31, 1935, in Cohasset, Massachusetts, Dan grew up along on Humarock Beach and graduated from Marshfield High School. His early years were marked by a strong sense of duty and adventure, which led him to serve four years in the United States Navy. Being a Korean War Veteran his time in the service instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for discipline and camaraderie. After returning home, Dan became a cornerstone of the Humarock community. For 27 years, he owned and operated Clark's Liquors the local package store-a familiar gathering place where neighbors could always count on a friendly face and a warm welcome. Beyond his work behind the counter, Dan was deeply involved as a real estate broker throughout Humarock. Managing Daniel W Clark Real Estate, he dedicated himself to helping others find their summer retreats and year-round homes by selling and renting cottages across the area. His deep roots and unwavering presence earned him the affectionate title of "The Unofficial Mayor of Humarock." Whether it was through his business dealings or casual conversations on the beach or front porch, Dan had a way of making everyone feel like part of something larger-a true community. In his youth, Dan found joy and excitement racing a small outboard (8HP Mercury loaned by Bob Boles) mono hull boat "The Humarock Baby". The thrill of speed on open water reflected his spirited nature and love for coastal life. The signature flattop haircut he received in the Navy and never changed became such a defining feature that it earned him his enduring nickname-"Flattop." He was a member of the Scituate Historical Society, Englewood Historical Society, St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Satuit Masonic Lodge AF & AM, and wintered in Englewood FL since 1990. Dan shared 56 years with his beloved wife Mary Lou (Mike) before her passing in 2018. Together they built a life rooted in family and community. He is survived by his two sons, Daniel W. Clark Jr. and Russell C. Clark, along with his daughter in-law Gina and grandsons Charles and Clayton who carry forward his legacy with pride. Mr. Daniel Webster "Dan" Clark will be remembered not only for his contributions to local business and real estate but also for the warmth he brought to every interaction. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who called Humarock home. A Wake will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA 02050. Burial at a later date will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to tthe Scituate Veteran's Services, 33 First Parish Road, Scituate MA 02066.
