Joan Kerby Weinman passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 29, 1933, in Staten Island, New York, Joan was the daughter of Daniel and Rose Kerby. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Edith Hungerford, Mary Lou Shuttleworth, Jay Kerby, and Roseanne Schaffner.

Joan is survived by her children: Laura Slomiak and her late husband Brett, Matthew Weinman and his wife Michelle, Cindy Whipple and her husband Herb, and stepson Jeffrey Weinman and his wife Claudia. She was a cherished grandmother to Brandon Follick, Jake, Tyler, and Joshua Slomiak, Jessica, Joey, Molly, and Jonny Weinman, Matty and Tom Whipple, as well as step-grandson Daniel Weinman and his wife Stacy and their son Riley. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.

Joan's academic journey was a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning. She graduated from Greenwich High School in Connecticut, earned a bachelor's degree from Russell Sage College, a Master's degree from Fairfield University, and was a doctoral candidate at Boston College.

Her professional life was dedicated to education and counseling. Joan's work as a school psychologist, counselor, and advocate for children and families spanned many years, with roles at Stamford Connecticut Schools, Boston College, Brook Farm Home, Plymouth-Carver Schools, and Riverview School. Later, she retired from the Center for Health and Human Services to focus on her true passions-bragging about her grandchildren. Traveling to New York, Pennsylvania, California and Nevada to spend time with them.

Joan had a love for the beach and could often be found reading in her chair by the ocean. At home, she was a craft enthusiast. Sometimes, sitting in front of the television with a book on one knee and a knitting project on the other. You knew you were special when you received a handknit gift of warm socks, mittens, scarves, or hats made with love under the label "Knits by Bitz."

A lifelong lover of the arts, she regularly attended performances of the Boston Symphony, Boston Ballet, and local theater. Joan was an active member and volunteer at the Marshfield Senior Center, where she participated in line dancing, exercise classes, and various art workshops. She also had the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream of performing as a chorus member in the Hingham Community Center's annual Cabaret variety show fundraiser.

Joan's philanthropic spirit was evident in her volunteerism for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life and advocacy efforts. She was also a proud member of the original Marshfield Red Hat Ladies Society.

Joan's family is deeply grateful for the care and support provided by the hospice team during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norwell VNA Hospice or your local hospice organization.

Dear Cindy and family,
I met Joan at the Senior Center. She was always smiling and had so much energy, taking classes, managing the gift shop and helping others. RIP Joan and may your life live on in your family..
