A graduate of Roslindale High School's Class of 1959, Ray proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force that same year. He served honorably as an A3 firefighter from 1959 to 1963, stationed in Billings, Montana and Marrakesh, Morocco.
In 1963, Ray began what would become a remarkable career with the I.A.T.S.E. Local #11. Over the decades, he became a cornerstone of Boston's performing arts scene. As Master of Props at the Wang Center for the Performing Arts and a stagehand with both the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, he helped to bring countless productions to life. His work took him across the globe - including a historic tour to China in 1979 when the BSO became the first Western orchestra to perform in mainland China.Ray's leadership extended beyond the stage. He was a founding member and Fund Administrator for Local #11 pension fund and served as President of Local #11 in the early 1990's. His commitment to his union brothers and sisters was unwavering; he worked tirelessly to ensure their rights were protected and futures secured.
Above all else, Ray cherished his family-both those related by blood and those bound by love. He shared an enduring and loving partnership with his beloved wife Patricia McLaughlin, of 52 years, until her passing. Together they traveled and danced the world over, creating memories that would last lifetimes.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Raymond McLaughlin, Jr and his wife Ellie, of Marshfield, Kristine Headrick and her husband Brandon, of Humarock. Devoted Poppo to his grandchildren Michelle McLaughlin, Liam McLaughlin, Keighley McLaughlin and Patrick McLaughlin.
