Joan Lucas, 84, of Newbury Township passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2023. She was born August 22, 1939, in Birmingham, England to the late Sidney and Gwyneth (Roberts) Beecham. In March of 1961, Joan married her soulmate, John Lucas (deceased). They cherished each other deeply, and their marriage was an example of true love and mutual respect. In 1975, Joan and John, along with their children Jacqueline and Clive, moved to the United States where they settled in Hilltown, Pennsylvania. They moved to the Cleveland area in 1986, ending up in their cozy cottage in the woods in 1993.
Joan worked as a secretary and office manager and also took care of the sick and elderly as a home health aid. In addition, she devoted countless hours to many ministries throughout her life. She was a pianist, avid reader, card-maker, and life-long student of the Bible. She had a quick wit, loved to dance, and always put others first. Her greatest joy was being with her family, and the loss of her is deeply felt. Joan and John were the ultimate team who led by example. Knowing that she is with John and Jesus is a great comfort to all who loved her. Above all, she loved her Savior. He carried her through the last 5-1/2 years when she was without John and then called her home in His perfect timing.
Joan will be greatly missed by her children Jacqueline (Thomas) and Clive (Christy); grandchildren.
Rebecca (Tim), David, Elizabeth (John), Rachel, Jessica (Colton), and Johnathan; great grandchildren Kennedy and Delaney; brother David (Jessie); sister-in-law Linda (John); in-law James, her nieces and nephews, and all of her extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, November 3rd, at 1:00 pm at Fellowship City Church, 16391 Chillicothe Road, Chagrin Falls, OH. Family will greet guests before the service, starting at 12:00. The burial will take place at Newbury Center Cemetery following a brief reception.

John and Joan, were the best in-laws a gal could ever have hoped for! They loved and encouraged me, and were always there with a listening ear. Joan ("Mom") spent many hours in my home, helping me around the house when my health was poor, especially when Beth and Johnny were young. She always had more energy than me, and when she was younger, Clive and I would often comment that she could dance circles around me! As she got a bit older, she slow down, but she could generally still out work me! Mom only ever gave me unsolicited advice on perhaps three occasions, and each time, even though the advice was given quite pleasantly, it was always followed quickly by, " I´m sorry, it´s none of my business!"
I always knew however, that if I needed advice, she was always there to listen to my heart. I will miss you Mom, and I look forward to celebrating with you upon my arrival in heaven!, probably with a lively dance!
