Joan O. McCrite passed away peacefully at home in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 31st, just shy of her 89th birthday. Born in Moore, Oklahoma on January 29, 1937.
She attended Moore High School where she performed in the Choir and was crowned Band Queen in her Senior year. Joan continued to sing in choirs throughout her life. Joan would often sing at weddings and First Christian Church where her family attended church every Sunday. Joan worked at Southern Hills Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching English First Language to her beloved students. Joan took pride in helping others and volunteering her time to those in need.
She lived a full life that carried her across Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Utah, Isreal and a trip on the great Nile River with her husband J.C. McCrite. Her greatest love was always her role as a mother, grandmother, and caretaker of her parents in their later years. Joan and J.C. kept Chad and Blake for a year in their home in Rosevelt, Utah!
Joan was always strong-willed and quick-witted; she was beautiful and fashionable with a personality that filled the room. She also had a stubborn streak that kept her independent in her later years. Joan maintained a beautiful home until 3 weeks ago.
She said "I love you" often and had her own special way of showing it. She would remember a grandchild's birthday by baking them their favorite treats such as chocolate chip cookies or granola cereal.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late Major J.C. McCrite, OKCPD. Joan and J.C. were married for 51 years. Joan is preceded in death by her parents C.J. and Margie Hilbert and her wonderful brothers Pat and Danny Hilbert.
She is survived by her only child: Julie R. Blair and her husband Virgil, grandchildren Chad Rempe, Blake Rempe, Casey Owens and Ashley Orf, great grandchildren
Caleb Rempe and Britney Rempe.
