Joan H. Mitchell, passed away at her home in Blairstown on December 2nd, 2021 surrounded by family. Born November 22nd, 1931 in Nyack, NY to James and Lydia (Oliver) Hoyle, she was a devoted mother and loving wife. She was a nurse prior to being a homemaker and raising a family. When her husband John began Conveyor and Storage Systems in Blairstown, NJ, she stepped in and managed the office. She was an avid reader, knitter and quilter. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and a volunteer gym teacher assistant for her children's Catholic school. She enjoyed swimming, playing tennis, and cross country skiing. She loved nature and in particular flower and vegetable gardening. She canned fruits and vegetables and made jam and homemade bread. Her favorite flowers were snowdrops and orchids. Finally, she loved all her dogs.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, John A Mitchell, Jr., her sister Lois Hanley as well as her beloved canines Bear, Beau, and Ben. She is survived by her six children:Jim Nolan and his wife Lucy, Ann Mitchell, Elizabeth McKeown and husband Charles, Gail Hill and husband Tom, Carol Neyhart and husband Russ, and Jennifer Keat and husband Kevin and her ten grandchildren: Jennifer (Nolan) D'Angelo, Andrew Hill, Katelyn Hill, Jessica McKeown, Alden Keat, Amanda Neyhart, Cory Cockley, Jackie Neyhart, Colton Keat, and Evan Keat and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday December 7th from 9:30-10:30AM at Newbaker Funeral Home, followed by a A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Jude's Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Blairstown, NJ.
Donations can be made to B.A.R.K, P.O. Box 312, Blairstown, NJ 07825 or an animal shelter of your choice
Arrangements are under the direction of Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown, NJ 07825
