Joan Mingoia-Monts, 58, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024 surrounded by family. Joan was a woman full of life, laughter, and love. She was a fighter, who overcame obstacle after obstacle in her lifelong struggle with congestive heart failure. Nevertheless, she still was able to help others professionally as a nurse and personally with family and friends. Her adored children, Jordan (Annabel), Julianna, and James, in addition to her grandson Josiah, were the reason she kept fighting.
Joan was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Staten Island where she lived until 1991, when she moved to Springfield, MA. She graduated from Concord High School (Staten Island, NY) and Bergen Pines Nursing School (Paramus, NJ). As a nurse she worked in hospitals, retirement homes, with private patients and most recently as a school nurse. In her free time, she loved going to the beach, traveling, motorcycling, cooking, watching thrilling action shows, learning about history, as well as spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her children, Joan is survived by her mother Ruth Mingoia (Kestenbaum), father deceased Richard (Marguerite Van Stolk), brother Dan Mingoia (Diane); nephews and niece Daniel, Matthew, and Olivia Mingoia; and many relatives and friends.
Joan will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
The First Celebration of Life will take place:
