Ricardo Ortiz

Ricardo "Ricky" Ortiz of East Longmeadow, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Ricky was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 11, 1966, the beloved son of Aida Luz Beltrán Ortiz of Chicopee and the late Roberto Ortiz. He was raised in Brooklyn and later moved to Springfield, where he graduated from Springfield Technical High School. A proud veteran, Ricky honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 21 years to the Springfield Police Department, where he served with integrity and commitment to his community. Ricky found great joy in life's simple pleasures-he loved to cook and feed all his friends and family. He also enjoyed working on his home, taking trips to Costco and Home Depot, and playing video games. He was a devoted New York Yankees fan and a passionate music lover. Above all, Ricky's faith, family and friends meant everything to him. His love, humor, and strength touched everyone who knew him. He is survived by his loving mother, Aida Luz Beltrán Ortiz of Chicopee; his devoted children, Jessica Lee Ortiz of Holyoke and Justin Michael Ortiz of Springfield; his brothers, Roberto Ortiz Jr of Springfield, Felix Ortiz of New York and his sisters, Jacqueline Penalbert, Diana Ortiz-Billups, Rosa Ortiz and Pamela Ortiz. He also leaves behind his six adored grandchildren, Aubrey, Anastasia, Jayliani, Aria, Logan, and Oakley. Ricky is also survived by his former partner, Marilyn Prendergast, and her children, Zachary Prendergast, Ethan Prendergast, and Elijah Prendergast. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his former wife, Vilma Rivera Ortiz. Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA 01118. A funeral home service will follow at 12:00 Noon, with burial and military honors to follow at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Ricky will be remembered for his dedication, faith, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy of service and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
