Joan R. Norris, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on December 10, 1930, in Peoria, Illinois, Joan was the daughter of Orville and Bertha Crist. Her long and vibrant life was a testament to her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
A proud graduate of Springfield South High School, class of 1948, Joan began her journey in the workforce at The Red Brick Tavern, where she met the love of her life, Richard. The couple shared a beautiful union that lasted 59 years, filled with laughter, love, and countless memories. Joan dedicated much of her career to food management, nurturing those around her with her culinary skills and her passion for bringing people together.
Beyond her professional life, Joan's interests painted a picture of a woman who embraced life's simple pleasures. She found joy in knitting, baking, and tending to her yard and flower beds. She was a lover of Big Band Music. Her travels to Florida brought her happiness as she cherished time spent with her sister, and her sweet tooth delighted in treats that brought a smile to her face.
Joan's legacy will live on through her loving daughters, Melissa (Jack) Cunningham, Paula (Randy) Terpening, and Lori Norris, as well as her special daughters Dee Maggied and Jill Dewbre. She is also survived by her beloved sister Deborah Dodds, her adoring grandchildren-Valerie (Rich Lefebvre) Terpening, Whitney (Aj) Ferguson, Dennis (Leslie Riegel) Cunningham, Jarrod (Khara) Cunningham-and numerous great-grandchildren who brought joy to her later years. Her dear friend, Betty Hollingsworth, will forever hold cherished memories of their time together.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Richard, and her sisters Wanita Hollowell and Eileen Crist, who now welcome her with open arms.
In remembrance of her rich legacy, a memorial service will be held at LaFayette First United Methodist Church at a later date.
