Joan Margaret O’Donnell, age 101, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, in Longwood, Florida. Born on November 25, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, Joan lived a full and vibrant life marked by love, faith, and devotion to family.
Joan is survived by her five sons and their wives: Tim and Debbie O’Donnell, Terry O’Donnell, Tom and JoJo O’Donnell, Trevor and Debby O’Donnell, and Tyler and Darlene O’Donnell. She also leaves behind a lasting legacy in her 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
A devoted Catholic since her marriage to Earl in 1948, Joan’s faith was the foundation of her life. She was a faithful member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Longwood, Florida, from 1990 until her passing, attending Mass regularly and remaining active in parish life.
Joan was an avid golfer who cherished time on the course with family and friends—and once celebrated the rare and thrilling accomplishment of a hole-in-one. She also loved vacationing in northern Wisconsin, especially during the fall, when she could enjoy the beauty of the changing leaves.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Earl, and her brother, Lynn. Joan’s grace, strength, and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her.
A Mass in celebration of Joan’s life will be held on August 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Annunciation in Longwood, Florida.
Joan had a favorite way of saying goodbye—one that captured her playful and loving spirit. And so, with fondness in our hearts, we say as she would:
