Joan Virginia O'Rourke, lovingly known as Mama, Granma, Granma Joan, and Gigi, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on May 23, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on September 10, 1938, in Miami Springs, Florida, she later made South Carolina her home-building a life surrounded by the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she cherished deeply.
Joan was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and dedicated many years of service to Eastern Airlines. She was known for her strong will and quiet toughness, but those who knew her best saw the kind heart that guided everything she did. Her faith was unwavering and formed the foundation of how she lived and loved.
She is survived by her children, Lani Armour (Lenny) and Robert Shackelford (Lisa). Her grandchildren-Kristin Quate (Kris), Justin Shackelford, Ryan Shackelford, Travis Armour, and McKenzie Gramling (Trey)-carry on her legacy, along with her great-grandchildren, Lola Quate, Camden Gramling, and Jack Gramling. She is also survived by two beloved siblings, Sandi O'Rourke and Ed O'Rourke.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Chuck O'Rourke, June Perlman, Frank O'Rourke, Jim O'Rourke, Micky O'Rourke, Don O'Rourke, and Ronnie O'Rourke.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina. A Remembrance Reception will follow in lieu of a traditional visitation, and all who knew and loved her are invited to join in honoring her life.
Condolences may be made to the O'Rourke family at www.greenefuneralhome.net.
