Joan Ethel Phelps

Joan Ethel (Griffith) Phelps passed away on September 6, 2025 in Okatie, SC. She was born on February 9, 1934 in Mt. Kisco, NY. Joan was engaged at the age of 19 to Gordon Griffith Phelps, and after a short engagement, they were married in Scarsdale, NY. They had a wonderful marriage of almost 70 years before Gordon's passing in 2023. They spent many years traveling the world and lived in 10 countries. Gordon was in the Air Force during the Korean War and flew refueling jets before working for Citibank. They were very much in love and Joan never really recovered after losing him.

Joan was a beautiful, gracious woman, a gourmet cook, wonderful hostess, world traveler, avid reader, artist, and freelance writer.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Phelps. She is survived by her four daughters, Karen (Steve) Swecker, Loren (Geoff) Bock, Tricia Phelps (Ronnie Broome), and Jolaine (Mickey) Rohlfing, 14 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. Mom is now reunited with her love and is at peace.

A private service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to one of her favorite charities-St. Judes or Habitat for Humanity.
