Joan Irene Readinger, 88, of Long Neck, Delaware, formerly of Berks County, passed away on December 16, 2025. Born January 11, 1937, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Joan was the daughter of the late Edward Phillips and Lily Irene (Manmiller) Phillips. She attended Stimmel’s one room schoolhouse in Dryville and went on to graduate from Kutztown High School, where she was fondly known by her school friends as “Flip.”
Joan was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General, serving as a secretary for 25 years before her retirement. Twenty-seven years ago, she moved to Delaware, where she fully embraced coastal living. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed fishing, crabbing, clamming, and spending time on the bay and ocean aboard their boat.
She was a faithful member of Christ Mertz Lutheran Church in Dryville, Pennsylvania, and was actively involved in social activities, including serving as a leader of a Red Hat group in Delaware.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Daniel B. Readinger, of Millsboro, Delaware; her children: Barry Readinger and his wife Shirley of Millsboro, DE; Dennis Readinger and his wife Tami of Hamburg, PA; Tracy Readinger and his wife Christa of Oley, PA; Robin Kelly and her husband James of Shoemakersville, PA; and Penny Guldin and her husband John of Fleetwood, PA. She is also survived by her brothers Donald Phillips of Village Greens, Sinking Spring, PA, and Richard Phillips and his wife Marjorie, of Catasauqua, PA.
She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Melanie Lane, Melissa Carter, Spencer Guldin, Skyler Stump, Parker Guldin, and Casey Readinger; her great-grandchildren: McKenzie Carter, Carissa Carter, and Nadia Carter; and her great-great-grandchildren: Marco Carter and Mateo Carter.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Boyer, and her sister-in-law, Shirley Phillips.
A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Christ Mertz Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood, PA. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
