It is with broken but blessed hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Rose Shaw, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who went to be with her Savior on November 2, 2025, at the age of 84. Joan was born to Maynard and Mary Beckman on April 26, 1941, in Elmira, New York, and grew into a remarkable woman known for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering faith.
Joan graduated from high school in Elmira before pursuing her studies at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, where she earned her Associate's Degree. She dedicated her life to educating others, serving as both a teacher and a dedicated office manager in a doctor's office. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother, raising her children with love and guidance.
Joan's parents, first two husbands, and nephew Joel Beckman predeceased her.
Joan married Frank Shaw on November 9, 2019.
A devoted member of both St. Clare Catholic Church and St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Joan shared her love of Christ with everyone she encountered. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, inspiring those around her to embrace kindness and compassion.
Joan is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Frank Shaw; her children Angela Gschwend and her husband James, David Rose, Sarah Smith and her husband Erik, Robert Shaw and his wife Sue, Rebecca Manchip and her husband Edward, and Alexandra Thistleton and her husband Simon, Patti Huntsinger and her husband, Rich. She also leaves behind her cherished brother Maynard Beckman and sister Gail Morgan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored their "Grammy."
A visitation honoring Joan's life will be held at Sanders Memorial Chapel on November 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 3:00 PM. Funeral Mass will take place at Saint Clare Catholic Church on November 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Following the Mass, Joan will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Joan's legacy of love, faith, and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. "Well done thou good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of thy Lord."
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the St Clare Catholic Church's building fund in Joan's name.
