Joan P. Siegmund (Von Achtzig),(Mom, Mimi, Grandma, J.P.), 93, of Niceville, Florida, passed away peacefully in Hoover, Alabama, with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Born April 16, 1932, in Tacoma, Washington, Joan lived a long and joyful life marked by steadfast faith, loyal love, devotion to family, a gracious spirit and a gentle strength that blessed everyone who knew her.
On May 4, 1957, at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, Joan married the love of her life, Lt. Col. Frederick R. "Fred" Siegmund, Jr., USAF (Ret.). As a proud military wife for 30 years, she embraced every new duty station and community with courage and kindness. Together, Fred and Joan eventually retired to Bluewater Bay in Niceville, where they built their dream home and became longtime members of First Baptist Church, Niceville.
A devoted follower of our Lord Jesus, Joan began each day with Scripture and prayer. She was an avid reader, her well-worn Bible went everywhere with her and she enjoyed the outdoors, bicycling, walking, swimming, and boating. She was a competitive bowler for many years in Colorado and California, and an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary with Fred throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Over the years, she cherished living in many places, including Tacoma, WA; Eglin AFB, FL; Cape Cod, MA; Sacramento, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; and later Niceville, FL. For the last four years, Joan resided with her daughter Debbie and son-in-law Scott in Hoover, Alabama.
