Joan Sietsma Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory (43rd St. Chapel) - Bradenton on Sep. 9, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Joan C. Sietsma, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, was called home by the Lord on September 6, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on April 17, 1944, in Paterson, New Jersey, Joan's life was a testament to her faith, love for her family, and dedication to her students. She passed away peacefully in Bradenton, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family.

Joan was the beloved wife of Edwin Sietsma, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Their union was blessed with two devoted children, Jonathan Sietsma and Susan Sietsma. Joan's joy was multiplied with the addition of her son-in-law, Daniel Quartucci, and her adored grandchildren, Emma, Caleb, and Luke Sietsma, who brought immense happiness and purpose to her life.

A woman of intellect and passion for education, Joan earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Montclair State and went on to achieve a Master's of Science in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Her academic accomplishments paved the way for a rewarding career as a high school mathematics teacher. Joan's commitment to her students extended beyond the classroom, as she tirelessly worked to inspire and nurture a love for learning in each of them.

Joan's faith in Christ was the cornerstone of her life. She lived her beliefs through acts of kindness, her involvement in her church community, and the grace with which she approached every day. Her Christian values were evident in her actions and the gentle way she treated everyone she met.

Beyond her professional and spiritual contributions, Joan was also a woman of many interests. She cherished moments spent with her family above all else. An avid doll and teddy bear collector, Joan's home was adorned with these symbols of innocence and comfort, reflecting her nurturing spirit. She found joy in crafting and sewing, often gifting her creations to loved ones and those in need. Her garden was a place of solace and reflection, where she could be found tending to her flowers and plants, nurturing them to bloom with the same patience and love she showed to her family and students.

Joan's legacy is one of love, education, and faith. She touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact through her teachings, her kindness, and her unwavering belief in the goodness of others. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of those who knew her. Though we mourn her loss, we celebrate the blessed assurance that Joan is now in the presence of her Savior, where she will dwell in peace and happiness for eternity.

As we bid farewell to Joan C. Sietsma, we hold onto the cherished memories and the lessons she imparted. We are comforted by the knowledge that her life was well-lived and that her spirit will continue to guide us until we meet again in the glory of God's kingdom.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Joan's name to Tidewell Hospice - Blue Butterfly Family Grief Center Program.
