Mrs. Joan Stella Granger Smith, 81, of McCormick, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced when they are complete.
Born in Vidalia, Georgia on November 10, 1944, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late D.D. and Charlie Mae Beasley Granger. She grew up in Augusta, where she graduated from the Academy of Richmond County.
Joan's husband’s career led them to Atlanta where they resided before returning to the Augusta area a decade ago. As a devoted homemaker, she found great joy in cooking and nurturing her family. Her dedication to her two sons and five grandchildren was unwavering, and she was cherished as a wonderful wife, mom and grandmother. Joan's faith was central to her life; she was a loyal member of McCormick Methodist Church, firmly grounded in her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Joan was preceded in death by her brothers, D.D. Granger, Jr. and Dale Ray Granger.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Wayne Smith; her sons, Jeffrey W. Smith and his wife Beth of Martinez, and Douglas S. Smith and his wife Lori of Advance, North Carolina; and her cherished grandchildren, Megan Smith Arnold and her husband Michael John, Lauren Smith, Brodie Smith, Ava Brooke Smith and Cannon Smith.
Her legacy of love, faith, and family will be remembered by all who knew her.
