Joan Marie Smith

Mrs. Joan Marie Smith, of Atlanta, Michigan passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026 at MyMichigan Medical Center just a week shy of her 96th birthday. She was born on March 16, 1930 to the late Henry and Margaret (Cank) Roehrig in Wyandotte, Michigan and resided in Atlanta at Canada Creek Ranch since 1978. Joan loved being a member at the ranch and was active in the women’s auxiliary and birthday club. She enjoyed socializing and playing cards with the ladies, trips to the casino, and cooking and baking for loved ones. She held a special place in her heart for her two granddaughters, Maggie and Marie; and her great-grandchildren, Mia and Ryker. She loved to spend time making memories with each of them. She will fondly be remembered by all of those who knew her and loved her.

Joan is remembered by her daughter, Beth (Dale) James; granddaughters, Maggie (TJ Gascho) Winans, Marie (Trevor) Goerts; great-grandchildren, Mia Gascho and Ryker Gascho; sister, Marlene Ledwick; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Lemora Riddell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret Roehrig; husband, Donald Smith; and daughter, Linda Ferguson.

In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial held in celebration of her life at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Canada Creek Ranch Clubhouse, 23500 Ranch House Trail, Atlanta. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Homes.
