Joan Beverly Storms age 88 of Millersburg passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025 following a brief stay at Medilodge in Rogers City.

She was born May 28, 1937 in Kawkawlin to Eric and Lena (McIntyre) Schmidt.

Joan earned her bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University where she met her husband to be, Dean. They were married on December 17, 1960 in Kawkawlin. Her major was in music which she incorporated in her class room while teaching in Bay County and Saginaw Township Community Schools. Joan loved teaching, one her favorite teammates was Nancy Grajida. Joan loved to sing, at an early age her father taught her how to play the piano, the violin, the accordion and the spoons. Joan enjoyed playing in the bell choir at church. She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Joan is survived by a niece, Lori (Dennis) Hilla; three nephews, Dan (Rita Horn) Storms, Tim Hitz and Craig Hitz; great niece, Lindsay Hilla; great nephew, Jason (Diana) Hilla; four great-great nieces, Kaily, Autumn, Lilah and Margaret; and a brother-in-law, David (Beth Getzinger) Storms.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; a sister, Kathleen (Charles) Hitz; and two sisters-in-law, Constance Storms and Claire Storms.

A graveside service will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Millersburg on Saturday, July 19th at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Shriners Hospital in memory of Joan Storms.
