Joan Szymanski, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born on April 14, 1931, to the late John and Margarite (Austin) McWilliams, Joan's life was a testament to the enduring power of family and faith. Joan was the cherished wife of the late Stanley Szymanski, and together they built a life filled with joy and purpose. She was a devoted mother to Stephen Szymanski and his girlfriend Erin, the late Carol Brandenburg, and Arline Gallant. Her role as a mother extended to her being a guiding light and a source of unwavering support for her children, instilling in them the values of love and compassion that she held so dearly. A sister to the late Arline Gill and Carol Malerba, Joan's familial bonds were a cornerstone of her life. She found great joy in her role as a grandmother to Keith, Jill, Steven, and Jeffrey, and as a great-grandmother to seven adored great-grandchildren. Her legacy will live on through the cherished memories and the lessons of kindness she imparted to her family.
Joan's spirit was most vibrant during the summers spent at Baboosic Lake in Amherst, New Hampshire, where she was a longtime summer resident. The lake was the backdrop for countless family gatherings, where Joan's laughter and warmth were as constant as the gentle lapping of the water against the shore.
A longtime parishioner of St. Mary's Star of the Sea, Joan's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was a loving individual whose faith-filled presence was a comfort and inspiration to all who knew her. Her commitment to her faith community was unwavering, and she served it with grace and humility.
Family and friends will honor Joan's life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, East Boston, on Sunday, August 3rd from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Committal services will be private.
As we bid farewell to Joan, we celebrate a life lived with an open heart and a steadfast spirit. Joan's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of devotion, joy, and kindness. Her love for her family was her greatest treasure, and the memories they created together will be cherished forever. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration. May she rest in peace.
