Joan K. Taylor
Age 88 of New Castle
After a long feisty battle with a relentlessly cruel disease, Joan K. Taylor passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, with her devoted husband of 66 years by her side.
Joan was born March 1, 1937, the youngest of three children to James R. Quigley Sr, and Rachael L. Quigley. She always had fond memories of growing up on her family's farm in the New Castle area and attending all 12 years of school in the same building, William Penn at its original Delaware Street location. In her younger years, she was an avid history student and enjoyed helping her father with his political campaigns. After graduating high school, she worked as a secretary for the Delaware State Police.
She married her husband, James L. Taylor Sr. in 1959. After having two children, Joan worked briefly for the US Postal Service. Eventually, Jim started a Fence Installation Company and Joan was his administrative support.
Joan was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She kept a lovely home, grew beautiful roses, she could sew, and she was a great cook. She rarely (if ever) missed a Little League game, hockey game, or school concert. She worked the concession stand at Little League, helped lead a Girl Scout troop, organized countless bake sales, and volunteered at the elementary school library.
As the fence business and the children grew, it became a wholesale fence supplier and a family business where all four family members worked until the business was closed in 2016 due to illness and retirement.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother, James R Quigley Jr., and her sister, Betty L. Bendler. She is survived by her husband, James, son, James L. Taylor Jr, daughter, Kathleen Taylor, and granddaughter Mayra E. Taylor. She is also survived by brother-in-law John Taylor (Sharon), nieces Janice Harris (Brad), Agnes Quigley, Joan Poirier (Philip), and nephews Paul Bendler, Rick Taylor (Carol), and Robert Taylor (Jamie) as well as great -nieces/nephews Brenda, Brad, Scott, Rebecca, Matthew, and Catherine.
Joan's family would like to thank the hospital staff at Christiana Care who attended to Joan during her final visit to the hospital. Special thanks to the hospice care staff at Accent Care. The family would also like to thank Christiana Care home visiting program for years of assistance provided. Last but not least, Joan's family will be forever grateful to all the caregivers that helped keep Joan comfortable in her own home for the last several years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service for Joan at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 101 W. 6th St.,
New Castle, DE, on Wednesday, June 11 at 12:30pm. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:30am-12:30pm. Interment will take place at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
