Joan M. Troy

Joan Miller Troy, born August 2, 1931, in Danbury, CT, the daughter of the late Dennis and Ann Miller, died peacefully at the age of 91 on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

Joan graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Economics from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut in 1953, at a time when many women did not go to college. She joined the Casualty Actuarial Department at Travelers Insurance where she worked until she started her family in 1961. After raising four children, Joan worked as the Tax Collector for the Town of Manchester until she retired in 1997. She was a lector and active volunteer of the Church of the Assumption. She cherished her weekly meetings with her Small Christian Community group. She enjoyed playing bridge and participated in two book groups. She loved to walk in her neighborhood and established friendships with many of her neighbors. During the summer months, she especially enjoyed adult lap swim at the Marcy MacDonald pool. Joan's resilience and fierce independence made her an inspiration to many. She embraced a positive attitude toward life and lived by the mantra "play the cards you are dealt as best you can."

Joan is survived by her children Meg Troy Harmon, Augusta, GA, Steven (Holly) Troy, Hebron, CT, Andrew (Diane) Troy, Cataula, GA and Mary Ann (Tom) Konishesky, Old Lyme, CT. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Claire Harmon, Trevor Troy, Ryan Troy, Sarah Konishesky and Luke Konishesky.

She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Marie Miller of Bethel, CT.

A memorial mass will be held at the Church of the Assumption in late July. No date has been set yet. Donations may be made to Albertus Magnus College, 700 Prospect St, New Haven, CT 06511-1189.
