Joan H. Venturo passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 11, 2025. She lived a life full of love, laughter and cherished moments that will forever remain in our hearts. She now joins her husband Stephen A. Venturo in eternal life.
She was born in Bristol. CT on September 26,1937 to the late Fredrick and Carrie Horchler. She was predeceased by her sister and three brothers. She was a loving and devoted mother to her three children Stephen T. Venturo (Sherry), Jay Venturo and her Darling daughter Debra Therrien (Ronnie).
She graduated from Bristol High school in 1955 and then went on to marry her soul mate Steve in 1956. She later started her career at New Departure in 1968 where she worked as a machinist for 24 years before retiring in 1992.
Joan had an unwavering zest for life and pursued her passions with unmatched enthusiasm. Whether she was out dancing, listening to Doris Day, gambling at the casino, sitting in her chair knitting, making her famous lasagna and stuffing for holidays or meat sauce, deviled eggs, and potato salad for fourth of July picnics or simply just spending time with loved ones. She approached every moment with boundless energy and infectious laughter. Her positive spirit and genuine love for life were contagious, bringing joy to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Joan known as Nana, took great pride in the significant role that she played in all of her grandchildren Tina, Ashley, Trent, Brittney, Breanna and her step grandson Josh's lives. She spent endless hours with them making memories that they will cherish forever. Memories like, feeding the ducks, picking flowers and catching lighting bugs in the yard, jumping rope in the driveway, and countless swimming and dive lessons. She also always made sure to have their favorite snacks in the snack cabinet for when they visited. Especially the squeeze cheese and crackers. The mark she has left on them is indescribable.
She loved her great grandchildren Caitlyn, Taylor, Emily, Nathan, Amara, Lincoln, Riley, Colby and Caleb with that same love and devotion.
She was truly overjoyed when her family expanded to five generations with the birth of her great-great granddaughter Davina.
She spent her last three years at Shady Oaks where she was loved like family by all of its staff as well as the owner. Her personality and quit wit became the life of the home and they all will miss her dearly.
Please come pay your respects to Joan and join family and friends as we gather to honor and remember her. This will be a time to share memories and celebrate a life well lived on Wednesday, September 17th from 5-7 pm at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave Bristol CT. A burial will be held privately at a later date.
If ever you are having a hard time and you are really missing Joan, Tina (granddaughter) suggests listening to her favorite song, Everybody Loves a Lover by Doris Day, Not only is this her favorite song but fits her to a "T". Joan loved everybody and Everybody loved her.
