Joan E. Von Essen

Joan E. Von Essen (nee Baylis), 93, of Midland Park, NJ passed away on November 7, 2021 after a short illness. Born on September 9, 1928 to Charles and Cecile Baylis in Brooklyn, NY, Joan was raised and married in Floral Park, NY eventually moving with her young family to Midland Park in 1970. She enjoyed golfing and was an avid bridge player. In recent years, she loved her crossword puzzles, games on her iPad and her nightly movie with coffee ice cream.
Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, George in 2007. She is survived by her devoted daughters Susan C. Brown (Kenneth) and Cynthia Von Essen, both of Hawthorne, NJ as well as her treasured granddaughters Kaitlin Brown of Ithaca, NY and Alexandria Brown of Aurora, IL. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Agatha Hutter and niece, nephews and many good friends. Thank you to her dedicated full-time caregiver, Marine.
The Von Essen family will receive friends on Saturday November 13, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM with a service following at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff NJ 07481, www.vpfh.com.
