Barbara Cannon, 90, of Waldwick, was called home to the Lord and passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, June 27, 2025. She was deeply supported by her family and wrapped in the comfort of their love, prayers, and presence throughout her final days.
Born on September 7, 1934, in Mt. Vernon, New York, Barbara was the eldest child of Edward and Josephine Burdi. She graduated from A.B. Davis High School in 1952. She aspired to become an executive assistant-a role that reflected her natural talents-and went on to work in that capacity for major corporations, including ITT Corporation and the Western Union Telegraph Company. In 1955, she married the love of her life, John Cannon, and together they shared 59 beautiful years of marriage.
Barbara led a loving and faithful life, embodying God's love in the way she cared for others. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, warm heart, and the remarkable way she made everyone feel like family. Barbara had a gift for listening without judgment, giving without expecting, and loving without limits. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her arms always ready for a hug.
Barbara is survived by her siblings: Carol Ellsworth, Patricia (Michael) Bartels, Thomas (Adelina) Burdi, and Kenneth (Nora) Burdi. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews-Kimberly, Jason, Ian, Alexander, and Sherry-who were among her greatest joys in life and whom she loved as her own, along with her great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Josephine; her niece, Michelle; and her devoted husband, John.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Friends and loved ones are warmly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
