Margaret J. Gnus, 92, of Allendale, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Born in Montreal, Canada, in 1932, she lived in Queens, NY, and Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, before moving to Allendale 27 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray, in 1982, her parents, Alexander and Elsie, and her six older siblings.

Margaret wore many hats throughout her working years: waitress in fine NYC restaurants, transport aide at The Valley Hospital, assistant at the Red Cross, and, finally, rectory receptionist at St. Elizabeth's Church in Wyckoff, where she retired in 2000.

Always fiercely independent, she was excellent with math and money and kept a spotless home. She was always ready for afternoon tea and a visit from her daughter. She loved her family, especially her four grandchildren, and nothing made her smile more than a picture of her new great-granddaughter, Marlowe.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Michele, and her husband, Rico; four grandchildren, Dana (Drew), Alyssa, Evan (Reese), and Noelle; and her great-granddaughter, Marlowe. She will always be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth's Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481
