Joan K. Wright

Joan K. Wright, affectionately known as “Joni,” passed away on January 6, 2026, at the age of 90.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor (née Slinack) Keenan.

Joni was a devoted stay-at-home mom who balanced her immense love for her family with her part-time work as a Medical Technician in the Healthcare field. Her career exemplified her dedication not just to her children but also to the well-being of others, reflecting her nurturing nature. Education was also important to her; she attended Penn State University, where she developed a passion for the school that lasted throughout her life.

Beyond her professional and familial responsibilities, Joni filled her life with laughter and joy. She adored spending time with her friends from Lansdowne and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and grand-pets, cherishing every moment spent with them. Her personality was warm and welcoming, and she was known for her infectious laughter that could brighten anyone's day.

Joni had a zest for life that extended to her hobbies and interests. She loved playing tennis and spent many joyful summers at the Wallingford Swim Club, enjoying the sun and the camaraderie of friends and family. A passionate Phillies fan, Joni eagerly anticipated spring training trips to Clearwater, Florida, where she celebrated her favorite team. Ocean City, New Jersey, was another beloved destination for her, where she created lasting memories with her family.

Joni took pride in her contributions to her community, having served as a Brownie Leader and participated as a member of The Rose Valley Folk Association. These roles reflected her commitment to nurturing the next generation and enriching the cultural fabric of her surroundings.

In her later years, Joni received invaluable support from Cheryl Steckel, her home health care aide, who played a significant role in her life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Cheryl for the care and companionship she provided.

Joni was the beloved wife of the late Robert H. “Chalky” Wright, Jr.; the loving mother of Robert H. Wright III (Diane), Cynthia Lynn Wright, Tracey W. McHugh (Gerald), Jeffrey J. Wright (Carol), and Shannon W. Gravinese (Rich). She was the devoted and caring grandmother of Chelsey Hitchins (Jeff), Taylor Wright, Drew Wright (Erin), Casey McHugh, Brendan McHugh (Meredith), Colin McHugh, AJ Wright, Joey Wright, Cam Tillman, Katie Buxton (Joseph), and Hunter Tillman. Joni was the dear great-grandmother of Chase Hitchins, Leona “Leo” Hitchins, Trey Wright, and Layla Buxton. Joni is also survived by her dear brother, Devin Keenan (Shelley).

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Joni at a Visitation on Thursday, January 15, 2026, 10:00 to 11:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by her Funeral Service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment thereafter at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA.
