Joan M. Wyman, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 8, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 2, 1930, at home in Bloomingdale, NJ, to John and Anita Marquette, she was a lifelong resident of the area who touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Joan dedicated her professional life to serving her community. She had a varied and meaningful career, holding positions at NJ Bell in Riverdale, NJ, working at Richard Butler School in Butler, NJ, and serving diligently as Court Clerk for the Butler Municipal Court. Her final chapter in the workforce was with Marotta Scientific in Boonton, NJ, where she continued to show her unwavering commitment to her responsibilities.
An alumna of Butler High School, Joan embraced the values of hard work and community service. It was there that Joan met and married her high school sweetheart, William Wyman in 1950, they were married for 49 years until his death in 2000. She was a proud member of the Butler Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she contributed to the betterment of her town and the well-being of those around her.
Joan’s greatest joy came from being with her family. She cherished the moments spent vacationing at the Jersey Shore, creating lasting memories with her daughters, Gail Brennan (Jack), Susan Sutcliffe, Cynthia Darpino (Robert), and Jill Wyman. Her love extended to her grandchildren: Colleen Twohig, Kelly Sutcliffe, Gary Sutcliffe, Melissa Darpino, Kristen Sutcliffe, and Danielle Darpino, as well as her great-grandchildren, Brian Towhig and Lyla Flartey. Joan also leaves behind her sister, Carol Marquette, along with several nieces and nephews who will miss her warm presence dearly.
Joan was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William Jr., and her sister, Marilyn Bowersox. Their memories remain a cherished part of her legacy.
A visitation will be held from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 11, 2025, at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, Inc., located at 86 Bartholdi Ave in Butler, NJ. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home. Joan will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Butler, NJ, following the service.
As we remember Joan M. Wyman, we celebrate a life rich in love, service, and joyful moments with family. Her spirit will continue to shine through the lives of all those she touched, offering comfort and inspiration to us all.
