Joanette Benet Lewis-Smith (affectionately known as Tiger) departed this life on September 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and best friend Debra Harper.

Joanette was born on November 4th, 1947 to her parents Lola P. Pearson and William T. Lewis.

Joanette grew up in Huntsville, Al, and later moved to White Plains New York, before she settled in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from East High School in Columbus Ohio in 1965. She began working for several agencies such as the Columbus Police Department and Western Electric throughout her young adult life.

On June 2, 1979, she married Charles H. Smith, and later divorced him and lived happily single until her death.

Joanette is survived by her loving children Allegra Sinay Lewis and Aja Simone Smith. Joanette grandson Ronald Loveless Hawkins III was her "Handsome Guy", and she was often caring and spoiling him. Her sisters and Brothers : Donald Lewis, Tiawands Lewis, Rachel Lewis, Roussalind Winston-Howell and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of other family and life long friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brothers :William Lewis, Dana Lewis, and Earl B. Lewis

Joanette served 23 years in the US Air Force, and retired in June of 2003, she then began working for the State of Ohio until she retired in 2014. Joanette enjoyed playing the Ohio Lottery, reading novels by her favorite authors James Patterson, and Stephen King. She loved to shop for new clothing and go out to eat at her favorite restaurants. She cared for her grandson after retirement and spent time enjoying her free time with friends and family on various outings and vacations. In 2011, she obtained her dog Bandit, and enjoyed taking him for walks and loving on him.

Joanette will be dearly missed by her family and friends
