Pellerin Funeral Home - New IberiaJoAnn DeRouen Jones, 86, passed away October 4, 2025, at her residence. JoAnn was born on September 11, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, in Lydia. Entombment will follow in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, in Patoutville.
Rev. Randy Courville will be the Celebrant.
Visitation will be Saturday, from 7:00 am until 9:15 am, at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 8:45 am.
JoAnn graduated from Jonas Henderson High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and History from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL-Lafayette). She continued her studies, while teaching, and received a Master of Education degree in Business and 30 plus hours from USL.
JoAnn worked for the Lafayette Parish School System for 36 years, beginning as an educator at Paul Breaux High School in 1964, then Northside High School where she retired in 2000. While at Paul Breaux High School, she met Ransom “R.B.” Jones, Jr of Lafayette, whom she married in 1967. Together they spent countless hours traveling throughout the country, including annual trips to New York City to see Broadway plays. Second to the love and wisdom she bestowed upon her family was her love of reading.
JoAnn is survived by her brothers Chester DeRouen Jr. (Immaculate) and Joseph T. DeRouen Sr. (Kathleen), sisters Geraldine “Deany” Verdun and Estelita “Lita” Wilson. Numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great - great nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Chester DeRouen Sr. and Elizabeth Ozenne DeRouen; husband R.B. Jones Jr., and brothers-in-law Alvin P. Verdun and Charles W. Wilson.
Active Pallbearers are Barrett J. Broussard, Jerrod J. Guillory, Joseph T. DeRouen Jr., Patrick R. DeRouen, Michael A. Guillory, and Jordan T. DeRouen.
Honorary Pallbearers are Chester DeRouen Jr., Joseph T. DeRouen Sr., Mitchell P. Guillory, Chester DeRouen III, and Debra A. Joseph.
