Joann Dorothy Erickson
Joann Dorothy Erickson passed away on August 10, 2024, at the age of 71; 48 of those years were spent married to her husband, Stephen Erickson, their relationship providing the greatest example of love and partnership. To most she was Joann, "Josie" to a lucky few, "Mom" to her daughters, and "Nana" to her grandkids, because "grandma" didn't quite fit her vibe. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, the coolest nana, and a great friend. She was a mentor, an advocate, and confidant.
Joann instilled in her family a deep love for each other, traditions, respect, friendship, and laughter, which were abundant at every family holiday and weekends at the cabin. The kitchen was the heart of her home, filled with family, laughter, and her amazing food. Often after dessert, Joann's competitive side emerged during spirited family games of Pitch. Her laughter came easily, and she had a stubborn streak, which often led her to getting her way.
Retiring after 36 years of working for the Department of Health and Human Services, she spent her free time traveling with her husband, family and close friends. Yearly trips to Las Vegas often resulted in Lady Luck favoring her at the slot machines. They also traveled to Italy bringing back stories to share. Summer weekends at the cabin were her retreat, where she found joy in her flower garden, fed hummingbirds, and delighted in spotting the lake's Cranes. In the evenings she could be found sitting on the deck watching the sunset.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Erickson; her daughters: Chris (Derek) Walker, Kelly (Jeff) Bernadt, and Jesse (Taylor Lewandowski) Erickson; along with her five grandchildren: Addy, Kenna, Jonah, Cal, and Kloe; as well as her mother, Dorothy Connot; two brothers: Randy Connot and Jerry Connot; and sister, Joyce Connot-Virus; Stan Erickson, Scott and Lori Erickson, and their families.
Joann will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the family and friends she cherished.
A visitation to honor her memory will be held on August 23, 2024, at Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Stand Up to Cancer at www.standuptocancer.org.

Steve, Chris, Kelly, Jessie and families, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I worked for and with Joann for many years at Health and Human Services in Lincoln. She was a very special person and one of my dearest friends at the Dept. She was fair, compassionate and caring in her dealings with others and was a highly valued advocate to the patients and residents and also to the providers in the health care world she supervised. She will be greatly missed. A one of a kind. I am so glad she took early retirement and was able to enjoy those too few years with her family and dearest people. RIP my friend. Until we meet again.....

I am so sorry to hear of Joann's passing! I worked with her back in the 1980's when I was a rookie surveyor and she helped train me. What a kind, patient and always cheerful person. I always enjoyed our brief chats in the hallways of the State Office Building. She will most definitely be missed.
