JoAnn Greene Funderburk

Mrs. JoAnn Greene Funderburk, 93, of Lancaster, widow of General Butler Funderburk, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025 at her home surrounded by her children and family with Chessie singing Amazing Grace. She was born September 17, 1931 in Waxhaw, NC, a daughter of the late Brady F. Greene and Thelma Starnes Greene.
Mrs. Funderburk was a former Miss Prospect with a nickname of "Waterboy." She was a member of the Camp Creek Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Hopewell Methodist Church and was a devout Christian. She enjoyed being outside and doing yardwork. Mrs. Funderburk was a seamstress, and she loved to crochet. She was a baker and cooked for the family and loved to play phase 10 cards. Mrs. Funderburk was a loving mother and grandmother and always had a smile on her face. She was famous for her cakes, sticky pies and biscuits.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Funderburk will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Methodist Church with the Rev. Glenn Ribelin officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Funderburk is survived by a son, Chris Funderburk (Renee); two daughters, Ronda McCain (Randy) and Debra Sistare (Doug); a sister, Addie Irene Laney; two sister-in-laws, Joyce Greene and Anna Rorie Greene; eight grandchildren, David (Joyce), Jason (Tracey), Dana, Terri (Darin), Steve, Tracie (Kelly), Jennifer (Wright) and Michael (Kayla); 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren. The family wants to give a special thank you to Chessie Allen, Mrs. Funderburk's caregiver for her special loving care of our dear mother. She was preceded in death by a son, David Lynn Funderburk and his wife Betty; and two brothers, Oliver Wade Greene and Edward Cordell Greene.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2025 at Hopewell Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Methodist Church, 3734 Heyward Hough Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or to Agape Hospice of Lancaster, 311-B North Main Street, Lancaster, SC 29720.
