JoAnn Thompson Hunt, 88, of Pleasant View, formerly of North Ogden, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Born February 26, 1935 in Brigham City, Utah, JoAnn was the second of three children of Sheldon Alfonso and Katie Wanda Petersen Thompson.
Raised in Corinne and schooled in Brigham City, she graduated from Box Elder High School. She married Wallace Elmer Hunt on June 3, 1953 in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
They raised seven children together in Ogden and North Ogden.
JoAnn loved to play the piano and sing. She was the ward organist and primary pianist for many years. She played the piano for the Southern Pacific Men of Song. She had a beautiful voice and loved opera, giving up her career opportunities with her talents to be a mother and homemaker.
JoAnn was a wonderful gardener and worked for many years with the family business, Wally’s Greenhouse, and also retired from the IRS.
She will be remembered for her strength and positivity. She never said a negative word about anyone, but was a self-described ‘mother hen.’ She liked to walk. She supported her children in their jobs and activities. She loved to cook and bake. She was good at making cookies, and was fond of chocolate and toffee.
JoAnn is survived by her children, Alan (Janice) Hunt, Pleasant View; Shellie Beckstrom, Ogden; Peggy (Dan) McColloch, Taylor; Curtis (Cindy) Hunt, Pleasant View; Lisa (Ward) Minson, Lonoke, AR; and Ron (Debbie) Hunt, Driggs, ID; 30 grandchildren, 84 great- grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sue Thompson, Tulsa, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Roy Sheldon Thompson and Sheldon Bruce Thompson; her husband of sixty-two years, Wallace Hunt; her daughter, Nancy Lynn Hansen; granddaughter, Stacey Ann Andrews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 17th Ward, 900 West Pleasant View Drive. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. The family wishes to thank Intermountain Hospice, particularly Heather and Sunny, for all of their loving and professional care of our Mom. Her daughter-in-law, Janice Hunt, was Mom’s kind and patient caregiver for years, and we will always be grateful to her.
