Carol Hunt

Born June 28, 1942, in Elba, Alabama, Caroline Sue Johnson was the fifth child of Cleve and Bena Johnson. She married Ralph Horton and they had a son, Ralph “Skipper” Horton. They later divorced. On December 30, 1966, she married James “Dan” Hunt and he passed away in 1987.

Carol passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents Cleve and Bena, husband Dan, her brothers Hillard (Buck) and Cecil Johnson, and her sisters Agnes Davis and Barbara Weeks-Rainey. She is survived by her son Skipper (Tammy), a granddaughter Faith, sister Marie Goins (Buddy) and numerous nephews and nieces. Skipper and Faith were her whole world.

She was a waitress for many years She loved her job, but she loved those tips even more. She retired from Golden Corral in 2024. There were many times that she would come home after an hour, because there was someone who needed the “shift” more than she did. She would even pick up or take-home coworkers who needed help with transportation. She loved her customers. Your cup was never empty. Always offering coffee after every meal, even if you didn’t order it. She would make her own “rules” sometimes, but thankfully the management really liked her.

She also worked for the State of Florida at the Treasure Coast Job Training Center and the Department of Children and Families. At those jobs, she would help individuals learn the skills they needed to apply for and achieve employment, help them find childcare and clothes for a job interview, and help families qualify for food stamps and assistance.

She was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church and then Orange Avenue Baptist Church. She would collect food and clothes for the various ministries, helped out the finance committee, and handed out daily devotion books everywhere she went.

She never met a stranger. She would talk to anyone anywhere. She loved deeply and spoke freely. If she thought it, she said it, so you better be prepared.

A visitation will be held at Haisley Funeral Home on March 8th, 2026 beginning at 5:00pm, and concluding at 7:00pm. A graveside service will be the following day, March 9th, 2026 at White City Cemetery, starting at 11:00am.
