Joann Koss, 84, of Washington, MI, passed away on September 9, 2025, after a courageous struggle with illness. She faced her illness with courage and grace, the same way she lived her life. Born on November 16, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to Mary and Roman Okonowski, Sr., Joann lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family. She was the matriarch-the guiding presence who anchored our family with her strength and unwavering love. Whether it was gathering the family for the holidays, offering words of encouragement, or simply being there with a hug, she was the heart of our family. Above all, Joann cherished her 66 years of marriage to her beloved husband, Earl. Their love and devotion to one another was a shining example to all who knew them. She is survived by her children Michael (Ruth) Koss, Lori (Steve) Schulwitz-Wood, and Mark (Jennifer) Koss; her 11 grandchildren; and her 27 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother Roman (Kathy) Okonowski and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Lenore; her parents, Mary and Roman; and her sister, Mary Ann Dorsey. A celebration of Joann's life will be held on Sunday, September 14 with visitation beginning at 1 PM, followed by a 6 PM funeral service at Wasik Funeral Home in Shelby Twp. 49150 Schoenherr Rd. (n. of 22 Mile Rd). Family and friends are welcome to join us in honoring her memory. Her love will continue to guide us, and her spirit will forever live on in the family she built and nurtured.
