Joann Moore, 88, of Speedwell, TN went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. She was born on August 4, 1937, in Hancock County, TN, where the family lived for several years before moving to Claiborne County. She was the loving daughter of Curtis "Otto" and Mossie Rice Mayes, who preceded her in death.
She was a 1956 graduate of Powell Valley High School, a member of Haynes Flat Baptist Church, and was a past Worthy Grand Matron of the Powell Valley chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married Donald K. Moore in 1959, to whom she was married until his passing in 2017. She was a loving wife and a loving mother to her sons, Keith and Mark and her grandchildren, Rachel and Adam. She worked at Claiborne Farmers Cooperative for several years. Afterwards, she was the primary caretaker for multiple members of her extended family. She enjoyed working with ceramics for years, and for the last 30 years her true passion was her day lilies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Elmo R. Mayes; and her sister Mary Ruth Damec.
She is survived by her sons, Keith (Tina) of Mount Holly, NC and Mark of Speedwell, TN; grandchildren, Rachel and Adam Moore; sister-in-law, Helen Mayes; nieces, a nephew and a multitude of other extended family and friends.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and thanks to all the staff at Claiborne Health and Rehabilitation Center for the genuine affection and outstanding care they showed for Joann, who was a resident there for the past few years, and to her special friends Dorothy Davis, Kathy Welch, and David Russell.
The family of JoAnn Moore will receive friends on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY.
Funeral services for JoAnn Moore will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY.
Graveside services will be private. Pallbearers will be Brian Alexander, Robert Fortner, Charlie Greer, David Greer, Eric Overton and Ryan Overton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Joann, be sent to Haynes Flat Baptist Church, 4264 TN-63, Speedwell, TN 37870.
