JoAnn Loree Roy

JoAnn Loree Roy, 89, of Salina, KS, formerly of Stockton, KS, passed away on September 1, 2025, at Pinnacle Park in Salina. She was born on September 20, 1935, in a two-story farmhouse north of Plainville, KS, to Ellis and Ada Louise (Sites) Wolcott.
JoAnn grew up in Plainville and at a young age lost her mother when she passed away in 1938 after the birth of JoAnn's sister, Janice. From then on, she was lovingly raised by her father and her aunts, Lenna McCune and Leona Bice. She graduated from Plainville High School in 1954.
On May 17, 1954, JoAnn married Clifford Roy at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar, KS. They first made their home in Plainville before moving to Albuquerque, NM, where Cliff worked in construction. His career later took them to Wichita, Manhattan, and Wilson, KS. In 1964, they settled in Smith Center and established their own business, Roy's Crane and Dozer Service. More than two decades later, in 1987, they moved the business to Rooks County, where they purchased a farm and built their home. For over 50 years, JoAnn was a devoted partner in the business - managing the books, helping move equipment, and lending a hand wherever she was needed.
JoAnn had a passion for collecting, especially crocks, pink depression glass, oil lanterns, and antique furniture. She enjoyed gardening, attending auctions, refinishing antiques, reading, watching westerns, and listening to Elvis and all country music. She was deeply patriotic, always displaying the American flag and filling her home with Americana décor. JoAnn delighted in her family's activities, from sporting events to square dancing with Cliff in their younger years. She had a special love for Christmas decorations and fourth of July fireworks, often sewing handmade flags for her grandchildren's birthdays. Her grandchildren fondly remember donut runs to Alice's Bakery during visits to Grandma's house. Every family member also had a favorite meal or dish she prepared, with dumplings, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, pancakes, and her banana pudding dessert topping the list of most-loved recipes.
JoAnn is survived by her children, Doug Roy of Rose Hill, KS, Tracy (Claudia) Roy of Salina, KS, Corey (Gail) Roy of Norton, KS, Paris (Gerald) Bremer of Otterville, MO, and Gina (Barry) Brooks of Smith Center, KS; brother, Larry (Cynthia) Wolcott of Hutchinson, KS; nine grandchildren, Piper Simons, Sean (Krista) McIntire, Katharine (Ashton) Draper, Bethany (Spencer) Shirk, Christian Bremer, Megan Bremer, Paige Brooks, Grady (Lindsey) Brooks, and Louis (Payton) Frazier; 10 great-grandchildren, Kloie Simons, Dean Simons, Charlie McIntire, Griffin McIntire, Clara Draper, Calvin Draper, Eleanora Shirk, Mabel Shirk, Solomon Shirk, and Parker Frazier; and many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cliff; brother, Eddie (Leah) Wolcott; and sister, Janice (Manuel) Cortez.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 2:00PM at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Stockton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be before the service on Friday, 11-1PM at the funeral home in Stockton.
