EAST MILLINOCKET-Geneva (Gene) Albert Roy, 93, after many years of declining health, died peacefully October 6, 2025, at her East Millinocket home. She was born in Stockholm, Maine, in 1932, the daughter and second-born child of Patrick and Leona (Lagasse) Albert. She grew up on their farm in Stockholm with many responsibilities at a tender age, including working on the family farm, caring for younger siblings, and earning money from outside jobs for clothes. Geneva attended public elementary schools in Stockholm, and Caribou High School, graduating near the top of her class.
After High School, she worked in various jobs including as an Operator for Bell Telephone, where she met her lifelong best friend Mary Butler Fogg, late of Satellite Island, Florida.
Geneva met her future husband on a blind date suggested by her aunt and courtship followed. She married Clarence Joseph Roy on May 10, 1954, in Presque Isle, and they lived in Patten briefly, before setting in East Millinocket. Once in East Millinocket, she had her first child shortly after her second wedding anniversary. As their family grew, she devoted herself to raising their five children and being a homemaker. She loved to cook and bake for her family; canning vegetables from their bountiful gardens was another love. She also took pride in keeping a spotless kitchen and home. Throughout her life, she was an angel for shut-ins, visiting confined people she knew were suffering quietly alone at their hospital, nursing home, or residence. Gene and Clarence had a tender and loving marriage, supporting each other as good companions throughout their 46 years together.
Geneva continued her affinity for the world of business and finance by privately helping many individuals, both relatives and locals, with their financial management, health insurance matters, and Federal and State income tax filings. She was recognized for her work as the recipient of an award from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteers. Always a dedicated Catholic, after her children grew up, she became active in St. Peter's Parish (later Divine Mercy Parish) volunteering in various capacities and making many friendships there. She was always generous and helpful to others.
Geneva is survived by her amazing and compassionate daughter, Ann Roy, of Bangor, who cared for Geneva in her own home in her final years, and by four sons: Arthur, his wife Jamie, of Hampden, their daughter Sarah Landry, her husband, Clay, and their four children, Keegan, Kaden, Khloe, and Avery, all of Cornville, their daughter, Liana Disch, her husband, Zack, of Oakland, and their son Connor, of Hampden; David, his wife, Wanda, of Levant, and son Nash, and his wife, Erin, of Woodstock; Philip of Veazie; and Roger, of Scarborough, his daughter, Rebecca, of Portland, and his son, Alexander, and his wife, Emily Gao, and their daughter, Opal, of Somerville, MA.. She is also survived by special nieces Annette Hathaway, Judy Roy Guarco, Carmen Bailey Cyr, Peggy Cyr; many other nieces and nephews; godchildren; and close friends, including Stephanie & Steve; George & Judy and their daughter Michele; Romeo; and Patti & Barry.
Geneva's daughter, Ann, her son, David, and his wife, Wanda, provided a high-level of in-home care, making it possible for Geneva to remain at home during the entire COVID pandemic and her subsequent illnesses and home confinement.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Clarence J. Roy; her twin sons, Paul and Clarence Jr.; her three sisters: Carmen Roy, Cecile Levesque, and Rachel A. Cyr; two brothers, Roland Albert, and Roger Albert; and a very close friend, Marlene Stanley.
