A family-led memorial service for Joanna Freeman, age 71, of Winfield, Texas will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Highland Lake Clubhouse in Pittsburg, Texas with Rev. Johnnie Hughes officiating. Ms. Freeman passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at her residence.
Joanna Freeman was born on November 19, 1953, in Gallup, New Mexico to Albert V. Freeman Sr. and Peggy J. Kirby on a Navajo Indian Reservation. She was raised in Daingerfield, TX and graduated from Daingerfield High School. Joanna was a loving mother, and grandmother. She was known to everyone as “Ms. Jo” or “grandma.” She retired as a dietary cook and was a resident of Winfield for 30 plus years.
Joanna is survived by her daughter, Peggy Townlin McClenan, and son-in-law, Ricky McClenan of Fairfield, TX, her daughter, Tammy Townlin and son-in-law, Mark Rigney of Winfield, TX, her daughter, Jamie Townlin Davis and son-in-law, Chuck Davis of Pittsburg, TX, her sister, Sharon Grimes and brother-in-law, John Grimes of Mt. Pleasant, TX, her brother, Russell Freeman of Cookville, TX, her sister, Sandy Dunson of Dekalb, TX, her adopted daughter, Ashley Roberts of Naples, TX, her grandchildren; Lonnie and Morgan Hughes, Johnnie Hughes, Brett Etheridge, Roxanne McClenan, Caleb Swindell, Kelsy Townlin, Jayanna Townlin, and Remington McClenan. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert V. Freeman Sr., her mother, Peggy Jo Kirby, her stepmother, Pat Freeman, her brothers; Jeff Alexander, John “Butch” Alexander, Kevin Freeman, Albert Vernon Freeman Jr. and her great-grandson, Wyatt James McClenan.
The family has requested that they be contacted with any questions or concerns regarding the memorial service.
