Joanne P. Battiston, a cherished wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on September 28, 1954, Joanne's life was marked by her dedication to her family, her passion for her work, and her love for all creatures great and small.
Her early years were spent under the loving guidance of her parents, Joseph and Virginia (nee Rizzo) Pelosi. Though they, along with her sister Janet Rosenberg, predeceased her, the values they instilled in Joanne remained a guiding force throughout her life.
Joanne's academic pursuits culminated in a Bachelor's degree, which paved the way for her fulfilling career. She began her professional journey as a medical transcriber, a role that showcased her meticulous nature and her desire to contribute to the healthcare field. Her dedication and skill eventually led her to become an X-ray technician, where she was known for her compassionate care and her ability to put patients at ease during their procedures.
She is survived by her husband Phil, daughter Brooke Philip and her sister Concetta French.
Joanne's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. An animal lover at heart, she found great joy in the company of her pets and the wildlife she would often observe in nature. Her creative spirit found an outlet in wood-working and carpentry, where her hands crafted not just objects, but pieces of art that reflected her attention to detail and her imaginative vision.
All are welcome to attend a visitation on Sunday June 1st from 1-3pm and 5-7pm at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Monday June 2nd at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Church, also in Mahopac.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Joanne's name to Guiding Eyes For The Blind, or Best Friends Animal Society.
