John Patrick "Jack" Anderson, age 86, passed away peacefully in Ridgefield, CT on October 6th. Jack spent the majority of his adult life raising his family in Mahopac, NY.
Jack, the son of Adelaide Cahill, was born on September 5th, 1939 in Rockland County, NY. Raised in the loving home of Albert and Jean (Raymond) Forrest for many years, Jack graduated from Haverstraw High School and would go on to study mathematics at the University of Albany and the University of Notre Dame. He would go on to teach high school math in Endwell, NY and would spend the majority of his career as a Math Professor at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY.
A dedicated member of his community and church, Jack would devote many hours as a lector at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac. In his free time, Jack made many friends running, playing bridge, traveling and camping. An avid runner, he successfully ran the New York City Marathon on multiple occasions. A devoted Yankees fan, Jack would spend time with family and friends at Yankee Stadium throughout the spring and summer months. As a lifelong educator, Jack always believed in the power of a solid education. Those who knew him well will remember him for his faith, compassion, honesty and generosity.
Jack is survived by his three children Kevin Anderson, Sheila Denneen and Timothy Anderson; their spouses Elaine Anderson, John Denneen and Lisa Anderson; and his five grandchildren Justin Anderson, Reilly Denneen, Ryan Denneen, Connor Anderson and Liam Anderson.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 9th from 5 to 7pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on October 10th at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac.
