Joanne Blank Obituary
Born to Pasquale and Mary Fiore, Joanne grew up in Highwood and was a proud graduate of National Louis University, where she earned her Bachelor of Education in 1973. She also earned her Masters in Education from Concordia University years later. She poured her heart into a lifelong passion for early childhood education, starting her career as an art teacher in the Fox Lake school district. After marrying her husband, Richard, they settled in Libertyville and started a family.
Joanne dedicated her early years of motherhood to raising her sons, Rick and Stephen, before returning to the classroom. She taught at Matigian Pre-School and later became a beloved first-grade teacher in the Antioch school district. Nothing brought her more joy than watching her students learn to read, a skill she helped them unlock with patience and care. Even in retirement, she continued to share her love for teaching as a substitute teacher in the Zion and North Chicago school districts. Joanne brought an abundance of love into the world and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Throughout her life, she was an avid supporter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, participating in numerous events including half-marathons, triathlons, and long distance biking events.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard; her sons, Rick (Christine) and Stephen (Samantha); her granddaughter, Charlotte; and three nephews; Tony, Robert, and Mark. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pasquale and Mary; her brother, Vito; and her sister, Angela.
A celebration of life ceremony will held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday Sept 25th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl., Libertyville where there will be a words of remembrance service at 7:00 PM. Private entombment at Ascension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to support teacher school supplies via AdoptAClassroom https://www.adoptaclassroom.org/ would be greatly appreciated. Funeral info (847) 362-2626

My deepest sympathies to Richard and your family. I remember Joanne from high school as a lovely, bright light among all the students. I do not recall seeing her without a smile and cheerful demeanor. Praying for your comfort and peace. God Bless.

Joanna, as I fondly knew her, was always a bright light and wealth of knowledge and adventures. She was a favorite substitute in our school and my favorite honoree at the Relay for Life in Gurnee. Sending my deepest condolences to her family whom she cherishes deeply.

It was always a pleasure to see Joanne walk in the front door of our school to substitute. She always had a smile! She took each assignment with joy and love for the children. I have a cross Christmas ornament made from newspaper that Joanne made me as a gift. It is so beautiful. I have special memories of Joanne every year when I place it on my tree. Sending my sincere condolences to her family.
