Joanne Mary Calland, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on May 11, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Joanne brought a vibrant spirit and warmth to all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Married to her devoted husband, Michael Calland, for 19 cherished years, Joanne was a pillar of strength and joy in their family. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Carrie Nagla, and her son David Witt, along with his wife, Gloria. Joanne's legacy continues through a loving network of family and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A Journalism major who graduated from Mount Saint Joseph, Joanne dedicated her professional life to education as an administrative assistant at Sycamore Schools. Her passion for learning and her commitment to nurturing the minds of young people were evident in her daily interactions at work.
Joanne was known for her boundless energy and an active lifestyle. She exercised daily and was an enthusiastic pickleball player, always encouraging those around her to stay fit and enjoy life to the fullest. An avid lover of Michigan, she looked forward to yearly trips to the area, where she soaked up the sun, explored new places, and delighted in the companionship of her two cherished Chihuahuas, who accompanied her on many adventures.
Joanne's life will be remembered through anecdotes, laughter, and the indelible mark she left on each of us.
