Joanne Ruth "DJo" Curley, age 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on July 4, 2024, at the Iowa River Hospice House with her family present.
Per Joanne's wishes there will not be a funeral service, instead the family will have a celebration of life at her home, 511 Woodbury St, Marshalltown, Sunday, July 14 1pm-3pm. Joanne Ruth (Bulanek) Curley was born on February 25, 1939, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of George Bulanek Sr. and Gretchen (Maronda) Bulanek. Joanne attended Marshalltown High School and graduated with the class of 1957. After high school, she was married for 22 years and had four children. Joanne first started working at Curley's Bakery while still in high school. She later went on to work at Fisher Controls in the payroll department and as a dispatch receptionist at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Joanne was an avid sewer that enjoyed doing lots of crafts. In her free time, she liked going shopping, gardening and taking vacations with her best friends to the Mall of America, Puerto Vallarta, and Split Rock Lighthouse State Park.
She is survived by her four children: Michael Curley, Sheryl Lucas, Suzanne Curley, and Kimberly Curley, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild, her brother Jerry (Kathy) Bulanek, and many nieces & nephews.
Joanne is preceded in death by her parents George Sr. & Gretchen Bulanek, her sisters; Janice (Ron Sr.) Hazen & Joyce (Clyde Sr.) Umbaugh, her brother George Jr. (Bonnie) Bulanek and a great granddaughter.
