Joanne W. Hoeffner, a beloved educator and community member, passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 74 in Medford, NY. Born on June 14, 1951, in Brooklyn, NY, Joanne’s life was characterized by her commitment to teaching and the service of others.
Joanne dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a teacher for Eastern Suffolk BOCES. Her influence extended beyond the classroom, as she was an active participant in her community. Among her notable contributions, she served with honor as an Ex-Captain of the Yaphank Fire Department Ambulance Corps, exemplifying her dedication to helping those in need.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Wayne Paul Hoeffner, and her sister, Carol and her husband Joseph Wilkers. Joanne was also a cherished aunt to her nephew Joe Wilkers and his wife Claire, as well as her nieces Meghan Cutler and her husband Bruce, and Kaitlyn Manshaem and her husband Ryan. Her great nieces and nephews, Phoebe, Joey, Aila, Arran, and Henry, were sources of immense joy for her throughout her life. Joanne was predeceased by her parents, William and Lee Winiarski, and her sister, Michelle Gaulrapp.
Her legacy will be honored during visitation services on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 7:00pm to 9:30pm, and on Sunday, October 19, from 2:00pm to 4:30pm and again from 7:00pm to 9:30pm at Mangano Funeral Home of Middle Island. A Firematic service in her honor will be held Sunday night, beginning at 8:00pm.
Joanne W. Hoeffner will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her students, and her community. Her spirit and kindness will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
