Joanne J. Laird (nee Miller), left this world on January 3, 2023 to join her siblings Elaine McCarthy, Patty Willard and James Miller in their journey to be with God in heaven. We know her journey will be swift as Joanne was a devoted practitioner of her Catholic faith. She was secretly and fondly called "Saint Joanne" by her family. We are happy to know that she will be up there praying for us.
Joanne considered becoming a nun in her youth, but loved children so much she knew being a mother was her true calling. Joanne will be remembered as a caregiver, and lovingly cared for many family members over the years. She was a long-time parishioner at Saint Mary Magdalen and was very involved with Delaware Right to Life and published the newsletter "Catholics United for Faith." Her relationship with her husband, John, was a wonderful example of a marriage to her family, sharing 63 years together.
Joanne is survived by her husband John; children Mary Gipe (James), Frances Wagner (Daniel), Paula Hughes (Todd), Kathryn Fierro (Joseph), Jacqueline Fogelman (Brian), and Brian Laird; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and siblings Michael and Thomas Miller.
A viewing will be held on Monday, January 9 from 9-10:15 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am at Saint Mary Magdalen, 7 Sharpley Rd., Wilmington, DE, with eulogy at 10:50 am. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.

God Bless you all, and thanks for the wonderful memories.
