John Miller Ferguson, 80, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home after a short illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
John was born and raised in Chester, PA where he spent most of his life. He was the son of the late Howard Ferguson and Ruth Rae Ferguson.
John served in the United States Army as SP5 in Head Detachment Battalion stationed in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam from October 1965 through October 1967. He received a Good Conduct Medal (First Award), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and U.S. Army Expert Weapons Qualification Rifle Badge, prior to his honorable discharge. Once John returned home from the Vietnam War, he was employed as a Warehouse manager until he found his true passion of carpentry, which he worked at for more than 40 years. John was admired by many of his co-workers for his attention to detail, skilled craftsmanship and quick wit. Tom Di Salvatore, Alan Mancil, John Clancy, Tom Pino, Dave Augustine among many others, enjoyed his companionship while working and having coffee and donuts. Other close friends, Dr. Joe Johnston and Dr. Ray Puzio were true supporters through John's life journey. John was predeceased by his son Howard Jay Ferguson.
John was an avid car enthusiast. He enjoyed watching sports and listening to talk radio. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him. His wife of 45 years, Charlotte O'Keefe Ferguson, his daughter Stacy Karpinski, son-in-law Brian Karpinski and his grandsons, Brandon Karpinski and Giovanni. His family would like to thank his care team for making his final days peaceful and comfortable. Accent Care Hospice Nurse Colleen was an angel who cared for John with empathy and compassion. Another interictal part of his care team was his niece Sandra Penn, who selflessly provided twenty-four-hour care to John during his final days. John's family is forever grateful to them both.
